Well it’s here sooner than I expected, I’m turning 50 this month! I was more upset turning 49 last year, by now I’ve come to terms with my age. Though I don’t feel it and certainly don’t consider myself old. Heck I’m maybe only half way done with my time on earth, and delighted and proud that I’m living it just the way I want to; doing work I love and learning how to take more time out for fun.
Last week I got a sad call from an aspiring home stager who said that she was 46 and therefore too old to start something new. I think 40 is the new 30. After all, our parents might have had a life expectancy of 65 but that’s not the case for us!
In my opinion, my caller is too old NOT to start doing something she loves! Wouldn’t it be a shame for her to waste the next 5, 10, 20 or 30 years not living her life’s purpose? I told her about Jean Smith in Florida who took my program at the age of 76 and has been having the time of her life staging homes in her retirement community.
By the way, my 80 year old mother, who survived colon cancer two years ago is off to see South America next month. And why not?!
Have you had something you’ve always wanted to try? Consider what you really have to lose by going for it. Usually the worst-case scenario isn’t all that bad as long as you have your health. I welcome your opinions and/or new story ideas and hope you enjoy this month’s blog posts.
P.S. In addition to loving my work, not feeling my age has much to do with spending over 6 hours a week at the gym. Rarely easy to fit into my schedule, but I go anyway and it’s worth it. Read my lessons from the gym and how they apply to business.
